BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) CEO Chen Says Passport is not Meant to Kill Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) CEO John Chen has reiterated that the release of Blackberry Passport is not in any way an effort to compete Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone. Instead, he said that the Passport is meant to give people, not just what they want, but exactly what they need.

So here is the difference:

While many smartphone manufacturers are busy trying to give users fun features, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is trying to give them what they need in their professional production. The phone is to enable serious professionals to carry out more functions with their phones as opposed to just having features that are meant to help users pass time.

“We don’t expect to sell a handset to everyone and don’t expect to take down the consumers who love to play games on their iPhones. But we do want to provide an experience that caters to the mobile professional – anyone who relies on their device to do their jobs,”

Chen says.

Apart from focusing on things that are trivial and creating millions of apps that users don’t actually need, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) focuses on innovation on areas that give more value to users such as longer battery life, an innovative screen, powerful keyboard, and advanced synchronization of contacts and documents into one actionable hub.

Chen agrees that such powerful features will not inspire masses to queue in the night, like they did for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but says that for users who burn the midnight oil working things out, the Blackberry Passport is the device to own.

A Berryflow author, Jubei Raziel wrote a long tirade against the media and individuals who have been complaining about Blackberry Passport over its boxy shape and square design, saying that these people aren’t able to comprehend the greatness of the device. Raziel says that even with the troubles faced by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 and 6 Plus over issues such as bending and bugs, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) still gets more criticism for what people say “box shape.”

The CEO said that Blackberry Passport is a result of extensive research and surveys conducted across the globe on what professionals need in their smartphones.
