Technical issues, revenue and performance notwithstanding, if there was a point that went immediately viral during Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s interview, it pertained to his apparel. Over the numerous occasions that this young entrepreneur has confronted the world, he has always been found to be wearing a hoodie-fortified grey T-shirt and flip-flops bearing the Adidas logo. When asked about it, he was most nonchalant in replying that it was his way of keeping things simple.
Explaining that he regarded choosing clothes a frivolous activity he clarified his choice in the following words –
“I really want to clear my life so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community. I feel like I’m not doing my job if I spend any of my energy on things that are silly or frivolous about my life, so that way I can dedicate all of my energy towards just building the best products and services.”
It is not the first time that the head of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), world’s most popular social networking platform, has been questioned about his dressing sense. Having featured on 2011 ‘worst-dressed’ list, Mark Zuckerberg was asked on 3rd October, 2012 about his style and he replied –
“I mean, I wear the same thing every day, right? I mean, it’s literally, if you could see my closet at home…. My wife has a bunch of stuff. Although she has her drawer — primarily scrubs for the hospital — I get one drawer. And my drawer is about 20 of these gray t-shirts.”
Where did he draw the inspiration to adhere to this formula which has become as synonymous with Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) as his name? Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein are two of the names which came spontaneously to his lips and he followed these up with a third, namely that of Barrack Obama.
There is a deeper explanation underlying this decision and the 30-year old CEO defended his decision with the following comment –
“There’s actually a bunch of psychology theory that even making small decisions around what you wear or what you eat for breakfast or things like that, they kind of make you tired and consume your energy.”
Is it then surprising if he is upheld as being iconic and functionality oriented in spite of having forced hundreds of users to download Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s messenger app?
