Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Introduced Elite Class of Lumia Smartphones

In an attempt to gain a mega-share in the Smartphone industry, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) introduced three new Smartphones in Berlin. Nokia 830 is the flagship Smartphone from Microsoft along with Nokia 730 and Nokia 735 to compete in different segments of smart devices.

This is the biggest launch from Microsoft since its acquisition of Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK)’s mobile business in April 2014. As per the announcement, these phones will be available in an affordable price range of $259 to $390 and it is certainly a more competitive range considering the launch of iPhone 5S, $649.

According to Chris Weber, corporate VP of mobile devices sale,

“We want to drive scale through affordable phones. We’ve created a product for someone who doesn’t want to pay a premium from our competitors.”

Nokia 830 is the premium offering from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and it features a 10 Megapixel PureView Camera and it showcases an advanced optical image stabilization system. It comes with advanced features such as integrated wireless charging and free OneDrive storage (15GB).

The other two phones, Nokia 730 and Nokia 735, are projected towards Skype users with a 5MP front-facing camera and free 3-months subscription of Skype services. On top of it, Microsoft will launch Windows 8.1 update in the next quarter with other Lumia phones including Lumia Icon, Lumia 930, and Lumia 1520.

It is yet another attempt from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to increase its share in the Smartphone market. According to IDC (technology research company), Microsoft’s Windows phone OS had a 3% market share as compared to the 85% market share of Android. With Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launching its latest iPhone 6 on September 9, it seems like every rival company wants to steal the show with affordable Smartphones. Earlier, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930) introduced Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge ahead of Apple’s launch.
