According to a report released by security website KrebsonSecurity, The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE:HD) might have lost customer data throughout all the stores within the United States after a potential data breach event. The founder of website, Brian krebs, even said that there is a possibility that the event might have affected all the 2,200 stores within the country.
According to his findings, he found a list of customer credit cards listed on Rescator website with their respective ZIP codes. He found as many as 1,939 codes linked with Home Depot’s locations. Although, The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE:HD) has not confirmed the data breach and Paula Drake, Spokesperson for Home Depot, said,
“Our forensics and security teams have been working around the clock since we first became aware of a potential breach Tuesday morning.”
The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE:HD) is getting help from security companies including Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC) and FishNet Security Inc. Both the companies are helping Home Depot in investigating any potential data breach events in its systems. Drake further added,
“There is no higher priority for us at this time than to rapidly gather the facts so that we can provide answers to our customers. We know these types of incidents can cause frustration and concern and we apologize for that.”
The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE:HD) has reassured customers through its official website and social-media channels that the situation is under control. However, the recent data breach events at other primary institutions including JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) and other four banks are a matter of greater concern for the customers. Home Depot lost 2.36% share value after the news and closed at $89.00.
