Traumatic experiences sometimes drive people to commit suicide while sometimes it’s the result of a terminal illness, but the biggest, most significant cause of suicide is neither of those, it’s mental illness. USA is almost top of the list as far as depression rates are concerned, yet innumerable patients remain untreated. However, that is nothing as compared to the situation in less educated countries where the stigma attached to mental illness is in a much worse state.

On an examination of this helpful list of the 30 countries with the highest suicide rates in the world, I was bewildered to find out that the list is peppered with African and European countries. This is a combination that is quite beyond me. Although the country on number one does not belong to either of these continents, the majority does. Maybe the nations are working on their mental illness issues, maybe not, but the fact remains that the high rates of suicide in the country are a real problem, a problem that needs to be dealt with fast.
