Even though iPhone 6 is assembled in mainland China, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) indicated that the highly anticipated device won’t be selling in China on the day of the global launch.
Many theories have flooded the web. While some think that it’s about China punishing Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), others believe that it Apple punishing China due to the leakage of iPhone 6 details by some China Telecom companies. The leakage included an impression of the Smartphone with many iPhone 6 mockups selling afterwards.
The first theory has been supported by a few sources with Zheng Jun, a Sina Tech reported saying that Apple has faced some level of opposition from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This was also echoed by 21st Century Business Herald, which quoted an anonymous Ministry insider as saying that Apple was yet to be granted network access.
The second theory is based on hypothesis by many analysts that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could be punishing China for the leakages that released confidential information at a wrong time. The information was released within two weeks to the launch of iPhone 6. The three telecommunication companies that leaked the said information are China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom.
The fact that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus won’t be selling in China just yet is also a big loss to the three telecom giants that had already taken pre-orders from Apple fans. iPhone 6 is however expected to have huge market in China because it has a wider screen, an element loved within the China market.
“The iPhone 6 Plus will kill all the big-screen Android devices to become the new must-have for rich people,”
wrote Wang Guanxiong, a well-known tech marketing expert and former software director for e-commerce giant Alibaba.
There wasn’t clear information from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) on why its new devices won’t be selling in China even on the global launch day. Many analysts are therefore simply left to guess.
